compare and contrast essay

The story Haroun and The Sea of Stories is about a story land fantasy world that is not so appealing to certain people. The Land is inhabited by two very different types of people, the Guppees and the Chupwalas. The Guppees are fun loving people or creatures who love the sun, stories and most of talking. The Chupwalas Love living in the cold darkness and hate sounds. So the Chupwalas try to poison the Ocean of Stories so that no more stories can be told. The Guppees then have to go to war with them and try to clean up the Ocean. This is similar to us because it is like the clean up of Dornix Park, we are the Guppees and weather, time, and littering are the Chupwalas.

We are very similar to the Guppees in almost everyway when we were cleaning up Dornix Park. The Guppees are trying to clean up something that is very important to them. When the Ocean of Stories was poisoned the Gups were getting sick and the stories were becoming sad, boring and/or dull. Now we are not getting sick or stories are not being destroyed due to Dornix being dirty, but since Dornix is a big historical part of Big Timber it is important to us to keep it clean and maintain its natural beauty, just like what the Gups want with the ocean. Dornix is the original homestead of Big Timber so it is kind of like the Wellspring, which is the source of all stories, of our town.

Our Cleaning up of Dornix Park compares with The Chupwalas and there goals because we are the opposition. We are here to stop the contamination and then revert the land back to its former glory or maybe even better. The Chups represent the wear and tear over time and all of the trash build up in Dornix and we are going to get rid of all the trash and fix the wear and tear. So even though we don’t compare to them in a positive way we still compare to them.

Dornix Park is important to us because it shows us where we start from. It is the site for our town and Dornix is the original name for Big Timber. Even though it was a long time ago it is still important to us because it always good to keep up with your past and your origins. This is why we are trying so hard to maintain this land. We as a community would never want to forget our past and the things that molded Big Timber into what it is today.

So in the end we can compare ourselves to both the Chupwalas and the Guppees in one way or another. We compare with the Guppees because we both have similar goals and want to save the place where we live. We compare with the Chupwalas because because we are just like there enemy in there world, we stand for everything there are against. The last thing is that our Dornix Park is just like their Ocean of Stories because the Ocean brings everyone closer to each other with its stories and Dornix brings our community together because iit will take a group effort to clean it up.

response to haroun q's

The Guppees are from Gup City and the live in an area that is nice and warm and the sun is always shining because they are on the light side of the twilight strip. They love talking, telling stories and being happy. I think that they would represent the good in their world or the life. They are the ones living everyday likes its meaningful and as if you were suppose too. The Chupwalas are the people from the Land of Chup and they are a depressing and they live on the dark side of the twilight strip. They live in muteness and silence. They are the enemies of the Guppees and want to everything to come to an end. I think that they represent death because they want silence and all stories to end.

Khattam-Shud is the end of all stories in the real world but in the story world he is a real person. He is the the lord of all the chupwalas and wants to take over all of the lands and pollute the oceans to end all the stories. So him taking over would be bad because it would be the end of all stories and most likely life itself.

The old zone is the origin in of all stories. It is what started the stories and even though they don't use the stories from the old zone to tell they use them to create new stories. So when the old zone was poisoned it affected all the stories that it helped create, which was all of them. So it is so important because it is the basis of all stories and without a base you can't have a structure. I think the old zone might represent the beginning of all and everything because it is the origin and everything needs a starting point.

I think that in a battle between Batcheat vs. the Ocean the Ocean would win because it is the source of all stories and life as the Guppees know it. If Batcheat dies. a few people will be sad but if the Ocean is lost then everyone will suffer. So the Ocean is more important than Batcheat.

Blabbermouth is a Royal Guard and doesn't like Batcheat because she is the cause of so much trouble due to her curiosity. So i think that Blabbermouth is a better person because she is real and unselfish and wants what is best for Gup City.

These are pictures from the story Haroun and other stories from India. There are animals like the hoopoe which is from Haroun and there are people like Ali Baba from the Arabian Nights. There are also geographical pictures like Mount Fuji and the Dal Lake. The Last Couple pictures are of real people who are actors or directors, and they are Satyajit Ray and Goopy and Bagha.

What's the Use?

What is the use of stories that are not even true? I believe that there are many uses for stories that are not true. The first use is to entertain, stories that are fiction are usually a lot more interesting because you can use your imagination as much as you please. So the bigger your imagination the more crazy your story can be. I know i wold rather listen to a fantasy adventure story with talking animals then a story about a an old mans fishing trip where nothing exciting happened.
The next use is to cheer someone up, just like in the story Haroun. In Haroun the storytelling makes people happy and full of joy which is very useful because they live in a city of sadness. So if you ever have a sad friend you can try to tell them an uplifting story to lower their sadness. A good story can do a lot and it will help keep their mind off whatever is bothering them.
The last reason is for a good bedtime story, no little girl wants to hear a story about some guy who lived a long time ago they want to hear a story about a princess who gets rescued by a prince, after the prince killed the dragon of course, and a story with a happy ending. Boys are the same way too, they would rather hear a story about warriors who go fight in a battle then something that is educational and true.
