Final

The two books that should be definite keepers are The Power of One and Haroun. Both of these stories are really easy reading and most importantly enjoyable to read. The Power of One might be a really long book but it really good and tells you a lot about South Africa during the apartheid years, and Haroun is a little bit of a different type of book, but I think that it shows the difference between American writings and foreign writings really well. I have never read a book like Haroun and was a bit skeptical at first, but it the end I really liked it.

The thing that we should get rid of was all the short stories in the Australia unit. I never really got into any of them and thought most of them were boring. The only one that i think you could keep out of that group of stories is Bush Rangers because it was somewhat interesting. I just didn't enjoy reading stories that are to short that you can't get into. To me it was just really hard to try forcing myself to read them.

I think that the blogs are a really good and innovative idea for journals. For me it was really nice since I am always on the computer and i don't have to leave what I am doing to go write my English assignments. The only bad thing about the online blogs is that some students may not have Internet access at home or a computer and this might cause problems for them or they might be able to complete their assignments. So if you try this blog thing again I think that you should make sure all your students have a computer and Internet or have access to a computer.

last JLC entry

In the last story of the Joy Luck Club, June is traveling to China to find her two half-sisters. She travels there on behalf of her mother's friends and when she finds her sisters she is suppose to tell them their mother's life story. June feels as though she has no connections with her mother and won't be able to tell her life story. Although she is nervous about it she sums up her courage and does it. She will also develop a better connection with her mother through her travels through China. So in this essay I will explain how June has strengthened her relationship with her mother.
The first example is when June first arrives in China. June only thought of herself as Chinese on the inside, but never on the outside. When she arrives in China she feels for the first time in her life like an actual Chinese girl. I think that this feeling gives June a better understanding of her mother and how her mother views life. While in America June never understood why her mother did certain things, but her trip to China opened up her mind up to see the world in her mother's eyes.
The second example is when June gets off her plane and her half-sisters immediately recognize
her. I think that shows that the connection between June and her mother is getting stronger because even though at first she doesn't see the resemblance of her mom in her sister she realizes that her mom is a combination of all three of them. This made a strong connection between the three siblings and i think the strong bond between the three of them helped build a stronger connection with their mother.
I think that this was a satisfying ending because it tied up loose ends and reunited June's family. I don't think that June's sisters needed to know her mother to love her because i believe that their mom's story is valid and had a good reason for leaving them. She did try to find them, but unfortunately she couldn't make it long enough to meet them.

"Four Directions"

In the Story Four Directions from the section American Translation in the book, The Joy Luck Club, Waverly Jong is a young lady who tries to tell her mother that she is getting remarried. Her mother realizes how serious their relationship when Waverly invites her to her apartment and see her boyfriend's(Rich) stuff everywhere, but she ignores it, Waverly blames her mom for the failure of her first marriage because she always criticized her ex. I think this story shows the value of honor. Her Mother, Lindo, wanted to have a honorable family and since Waverly's previous husband didn't make the cut lindo had to step in and try to ruin the marriage by constantly criticizing him until he got sick of it and left.
Waverly didn't take this very well because she was scared that her Mother would not like Rich and would ruin her marriage again. So when she took him to dinner at Lindo's house, Rich made many etiquette mistakes and Waverly thought her marriage would never happen. She planned on telling Lindo that they planned on getting married, but after Rich's mistakes she didn't. The next day Waverly went to Lindo's and was determined to tell her what was happening. When she told Lindo everything, Lindo said she already knew and that she actually liked Rich and that Waverly misunderstands her mother on many things. In the end it all worked out and they ended up postponing their marriage because Lindo says that china is nicest in October and that is where they are honeymooning.

Childhood conflict

I remember taking the blame for a lot things when i was younger for things my little brother did. No matter what happened if my little brother said i did he was right. This led to many conflicts between me and my step-mom. My dad on the other was a little more resonible and tried to listen to both sides. I remember this one time i walked out of my room and my little brother, Gio, threw a lightsaber at me and missed. It went pass me and hit one of my mom's collectible things and broke. My brother ran to my mom and told her that I stole his lightsaber and hit the collectible thing and broke it. So my mom calls me over and start yelling at me for no reason. I try telling her that Gio threw it at me and i moved out of the way and then she started saying i should have just let it hit me so nothing broke. I said that her logic was dumb and started to walk away. Then she got even more mad and started yelling at me for giving her attitude, but i just gave up this pointless argument and went to my room. I was used to this so it didn't really affect me to much, it just made me a little angry.
I think the real reason she was yelling at me and putting all the blame on me was that she just needed someone to blame and she wasn't going to blame her precious little baby so i was always first on the chopping block. This was usually the main reason we ever fought, only when something was broken or not done correctly was when i was getting yelled at. Unfortunatley for me there was usually something broken or not done correctly on a day to day basis.

childhood impact story

The episode in my childhood that had the biggest impact on my life is when I got a new mommy. It was when i was living in Fort Knox, Kentucky. I was about five years old and my parents split up, but I think i was a little to young to grasp the concept of what really happened. I didn't really know what the word divorce meant I just thought my mom was at work all week and that is why i only saw her on the weekends. Eventually I figured out that something was different especially when my dad’s new friend moved into our house with her daughter. Her name was Annette and her daughter was named Rouaine and i have met them before at birthday parties and stuff. At that time i just thought we were giving them a place to stay while they were getting a new house or something. Then all of a sudden something horrible happened, my playroom was changed into Rouaine's new bedroom. I was like WHOA! what is going on, where I'm i supposed to play and then i realized that they were going to stay a little longer than i anticipated.

At that time i didn't really know how i felt about the new people living in the house, I kind of just tried to keep everything the same, but it was a little hard because i went from living in a house with just my dad and my older brother, Kris, to living with two new girls. I couldn't use the bathroom with the door anymore and it seemed like i started to get in trouble a lot more. We started eating a different type of food some of which i like and some of which i hated. So i didn't really like this new change and i wanted them to leave because i thought that they were stealing my dad away from me and my brother. So i didn't think to highly of them. In the end She ended up marrying my dad and i got a step-mom and step-sister.

I learned a lot of things with this experience, like that when you get new family members you lose some living space in your home and that things can get a little more crazy. I also learned that boys and girls are different inside and out. I had to learn to put the toilet seat down. I also learned that sharing is a good qaulity and you can't treat girls like boys.

China Reading response

In ancient times the Chinese called their country the "Middle Kingdom" because they believed that China was the center of the civilized world. They thought that the father away you went form China the less civilized and more barbaric you became. The emperor of China was more than royalty he was the "Son of Heaven" and ruled "everything under heaven." So in the end the Chinese thought they created civilization and that they are more superior to anyone else in the world.
The Chinese hold the record for the longest unbroken line of one continuous civilization in the same place, dating from the Bronze Age to the Space Age. The Chinese developed a very complex system of writing and it is still used today. It became the vehicle for a literary tradition of prose, poetry, drama, history, and philosophy. It was so rich and prolific that half of the books written before 1750 were written in Chinese. The Chinese invented paper, brush , ink, and ink stones, and they called them their "four treasures." Another invention by the Chinese is silk, it was one of their most valuable treasures. They used silk for trading with the western European countries and to the Europeans silk was just as valuable as gold. The Chinese guarded the secret of making silk very closely anyone who tried smuggling silk worms out of the country was punished by death. Silk was so big that they they named the trading route between East Asia and The Mediterranean world the Silk Road.
China invented many valuable things like paper, the magnetic compass, gunpowder and printing and these are called the "four inventions." They also invented watertight ship compartments, canal locks, suspension bridges and crossbows.
In China the Father in the family had complete authority. He could divorce his wife at anytime but the wife was not allowed to leave him. The daughters were treated like garbage and the boys were not. During times of Famine the family would starve the daughters to feed the sons.

china freewrite

China is a really big country that holds a lot of of people. it is the most populated country in the world. It is home to the great wall of china that stretches 4500 miles and was used to block out the invading Huns. Silk was invented in china and was a closely guarded secret, anyone who tries to tell someone the secret was killed. Each year in china is represented by an animal. i was born in the year of the horse. ice was also invented in china by put soft milk and rice into snow. chopsticks were made in china and are still used by almost everyone in china. Mandarin Chinese is the world’s most spoken language with over 870 million speakers. They have a terracotta army which was buried with some emperor to protect him in the afterlife. each statue is supposably based on real chinese soldiers. In china tree hugging is forbidden. The most famous animal in china is most likely the panda bear. They also have tigers and chinese dragons. They are a big distributor of jade models and sculptures. The flag is red with gold stars and red is considered a lucky color in china. they have the oldest calendar system dating back to 2600 b.c.

the panda bear is probably my most favorite animal and even though dragons are not considered real i watched a pretty convincing show on discovery channel and now i think they are real and so they are pretty sweet too along with the tiger. In china they eat alot of rice and have big rice patties which are fields they grow rice on. I like rice too. So it tthink i might like to go visit china and hug a panda bear and chase dragons.

compare and contrast essay

The story Haroun and The Sea of Stories is about a story land fantasy world that is not so appealing to certain people. The Land is inhabited by two very different types of people, the Guppees and the Chupwalas. The Guppees are fun loving people or creatures who love the sun, stories and most of talking. The Chupwalas Love living in the cold darkness and hate sounds. So the Chupwalas try to poison the Ocean of Stories so that no more stories can be told. The Guppees then have to go to war with them and try to clean up the Ocean. This is similar to us because it is like the clean up of Dornix Park, we are the Guppees and weather, time, and littering are the Chupwalas.

We are very similar to the Guppees in almost everyway when we were cleaning up Dornix Park. The Guppees are trying to clean up something that is very important to them. When the Ocean of Stories was poisoned the Gups were getting sick and the stories were becoming sad, boring and/or dull. Now we are not getting sick or stories are not being destroyed due to Dornix being dirty, but since Dornix is a big historical part of Big Timber it is important to us to keep it clean and maintain its natural beauty, just like what the Gups want with the ocean. Dornix is the original homestead of Big Timber so it is kind of like the Wellspring, which is the source of all stories, of our town.

Our Cleaning up of Dornix Park compares with The Chupwalas and there goals because we are the opposition. We are here to stop the contamination and then revert the land back to its former glory or maybe even better. The Chups represent the wear and tear over time and all of the trash build up in Dornix and we are going to get rid of all the trash and fix the wear and tear. So even though we don’t compare to them in a positive way we still compare to them.

Dornix Park is important to us because it shows us where we start from. It is the site for our town and Dornix is the original name for Big Timber. Even though it was a long time ago it is still important to us because it always good to keep up with your past and your origins. This is why we are trying so hard to maintain this land. We as a community would never want to forget our past and the things that molded Big Timber into what it is today.

So in the end we can compare ourselves to both the Chupwalas and the Guppees in one way or another. We compare with the Guppees because we both have similar goals and want to save the place where we live. We compare with the Chupwalas because because we are just like there enemy in there world, we stand for everything there are against. The last thing is that our Dornix Park is just like their Ocean of Stories because the Ocean brings everyone closer to each other with its stories and Dornix brings our community together because iit will take a group effort to clean it up.

response to haroun q's

The Guppees are from Gup City and the live in an area that is nice and warm and the sun is always shining because they are on the light side of the twilight strip. They love talking, telling stories and being happy. I think that they would represent the good in their world or the life. They are the ones living everyday likes its meaningful and as if you were suppose too. The Chupwalas are the people from the Land of Chup and they are a depressing and they live on the dark side of the twilight strip. They live in muteness and silence. They are the enemies of the Guppees and want to everything to come to an end. I think that they represent death because they want silence and all stories to end.

Khattam-Shud is the end of all stories in the real world but in the story world he is a real person. He is the the lord of all the chupwalas and wants to take over all of the lands and pollute the oceans to end all the stories. So him taking over would be bad because it would be the end of all stories and most likely life itself.

The old zone is the origin in of all stories. It is what started the stories and even though they don't use the stories from the old zone to tell they use them to create new stories. So when the old zone was poisoned it affected all the stories that it helped create, which was all of them. So it is so important because it is the basis of all stories and without a base you can't have a structure. I think the old zone might represent the beginning of all and everything because it is the origin and everything needs a starting point.

I think that in a battle between Batcheat vs. the Ocean the Ocean would win because it is the source of all stories and life as the Guppees know it. If Batcheat dies. a few people will be sad but if the Ocean is lost then everyone will suffer. So the Ocean is more important than Batcheat.

Blabbermouth is a Royal Guard and doesn't like Batcheat because she is the cause of so much trouble due to her curiosity. So i think that Blabbermouth is a better person because she is real and unselfish and wants what is best for Gup City.

There are also geographical pictures like Mount Fuji and the Dal Lake. The Last Couple pictures are of real people who are actors or directors, and they are Satyajit Ray and Goopy and Bagha.

What's the Use?

What is the use of stories that are not even true? I believe that there are many uses for stories that are not true. The first use is to entertain, stories that are fiction are usually a lot more interesting because you can use your imagination as much as you please. So the bigger your imagination the more crazy your story can be. I know i wold rather listen to a fantasy adventure story with talking animals then a story about a an old mans fishing trip where nothing exciting happened.
The next use is to cheer someone up, just like in the story Haroun. In Haroun the storytelling makes people happy and full of joy which is very useful because they live in a city of sadness. So if you ever have a sad friend you can try to tell them an uplifting story to lower their sadness. A good story can do a lot and it will help keep their mind off whatever is bothering them.
The last reason is for a good bedtime story, no little girl wants to hear a story about some guy who lived a long time ago they want to hear a story about a princess who gets rescued by a prince, after the prince killed the dragon of course, and a story with a happy ending. Boys are the same way too, they would rather hear a story about warriors who go fight in a battle then something that is educational and true.

Response to reading

Response from The Ganges
In my readings I read about how important the Ganges river is to the people of India. This is more than just a normal river to the Indians, it is a sacred river that is said to flow from the heavens. The Ganges is said to flow upon the matted hair of the god, Lord Shiva, into a cave in the Himalayas. Some of the Indian people don't like this idea because they think it arises from the foot of the great god Vishnu. This causes some conflict between the Shaivites(the people who believe in the Shiva theory) and the Vaishnavites(people who believe in the Vishnu theory). In the end they both see the river as sacred and worship it. To the people of India this river "destroys the poison of illusion," she "brings about the continuance of peace,"she is the "embodiment of the Supreme Spirit," and the "mother of what is alive." This river also plays an important part in the agricultural part of India, if the river is to low then their crops won't get enough water but, if it is to high then it will flood their land and ruin their crops. So unless the River is at a good lever the crops will do fine. The Flooding also occurs in many of the cities around the river because the land is so flat.

Reading from our English Book
In our books we learned about the first signs of Indian culture and even in 2500 B.C. they still worshiped the god, Shiva. The that civilization was destroyed by the Aryan invaders. We also read about the Vedas which is a sacred book and how they wrote many epics. The main religion their is Hinduism but, eventually Buddhism and Muslim was introduced to the country.

India Freewrite

India..... what can i say about it. Ive seen a few videos about in one of my history classes. I know that it is the second most populated country in the world and that the country isnt very big so that means that there are alot of people crammed in a small place. So the country is packed. i know that they have tigers there and i like tigers. they look really cool and ferocious. the people there are mostly hindu. Hindu is a religion that believes in many gods like this one girl with many arms. i think her name is sheeba or shiva or something like that. she might be te god of death but im not really sure. They think that cows are sacred so they dont hurt or eat them. the taj mahal is in India and it looks really cool. id like to see it in person. they have many monuments. they are also many buddhist and many buddhist monks too. i like to think of monks from the movies ive seen. they probably are all really good at martial arts and have special powers. India was also home to alot of violence by european settlers... imagine that. the indians decided to go with a nonviolent way of gaining freedom led by the one and only Mahatma Ghandi. He didnt believe in violence and under his leadership india gained its independence from Britan. Other things that i know about india is that the women have a red dot or jewel thind on their forehead but i dont know what it signifies or means. the people in india are very friendly towards one another the men will walk down the street holding hands but it doesnt mean that they are gay just good friends. I think that the kam sutra comes from india too and that is a sexually based book. the capital of India is New Delhi. hmmmmm that all i can really think and i successfully used up fifteen minutes. I rock!

power of one- 15 min freewrite

The power of one is an amazing concept., but what really is the power of one??? no one really knows i think but i could try to give you my personal explation of this novel idea. i think that that it means the power of the one person who can take control over the whole. by that i mean this one person has a specific power to use the people around to make himself or herself more power. this reminds me of the lord of the rings when they say one ring to rule them all but in this case its a person not a ring. in the story the power of one isnt the power of one thing but many things done by one person. i think that is a special concept and there are many things we can learn just by thinking about like how to better our lives and the people around us too. now im just completely lost in my own mind and i dont know what im saying im just sitting here rambling on about complete nonsense and trying to think of things peekay did in thias story that gives him the title of hero the only thing i really think of the fact that he gives hope to the africans through his boxing and how he is the tadpole angel which isnt a very intimidating nickname and personally wouldnt want and im also thinking how fortunate he really is to have friends that would give their lives to save him and also try to give him their money. in the end the book he fought his old nemeisis the judge who is actually kjind of his working partner and is now called botha he confronts him and they fight to a bloody finish with peekay coming out on top which is good. but i didnt really like the ending becuase it leaves me wanting more and i wish there was some sort of sequel that sums up the rest of his life at oxford and hisd boxing career.............now i cant think anything except tonight and how awesome the bball games are goin to be. and i have a couple seconds left until fifteen minutes are up and now im finished

power of one essay

In this story Peekay is told a lot of sayings that are like little riddles to us as readers. You just read them and they make you think and you want to compare them to things in life or things you have read in your book to see if you can put them together. Most of the time you can make go together just by looking a little deeper into the meaning. So I am going to try and compare one of these riddles the scene where justice was served.

“The searcher after truth must search with humanity. Ruthless logic is the sign of a limited mind. The truth can only add to the sum of what you know, while a harmless mystery left unexplored often adds meaning to life.” This is a quote from the book The Power of One. Doc, who is one of Peekay’s mentors, tells him this. I think that Doc was trying to say that you have take in other people’s perspectives on the truth on order to find the real truth. Ruthless logic to me is just finding one answer and not letting anyone tell you differently. So you can find the truth, but you should compare it to another person thought of truth, so you can explore the meaning of all truths. I think that this pretty much means keep an open mind to all ideas around you.

The example I pick to compare with Doc’s quote is when Captain Smit beats up Borman. I picked this one because it shows how a person can open their mind up to do what is right even if it goes against everything you grew up learning. Captain Smit beats up Borman, because Borman killed Geel Piet who was a kaffir. The significant thing about this is, is that it was a white man taking the side of a black man. Back then this was out of the ordinary and really showed the search for humanity in the prison system, since Captain Smit didn't use ruthless logic to treat the situation they were in.

In the end I think i compared this riddle with the scene from the book. I came to the conclusion that why evaluation of the riddle did match with the scene from the book. The end result by doing this comparison was that I found out that when the time comes a person will do what is write for everyone and not just certain individuals. In the end the searcher of truth must search with humanity.

response to background info

What I learned from my reading
I didn’t know too much about the background information of Southern Africa, so pretty much everything I read was new to me. I knew that it was a violent place, but only because of the movies I’ve watched. So I didn’t know why it was so violent. I didn’t know that they were in a struggle for independence from European colonies.

From Shannon’s
I found out a lot of facts about Southern Africa, like 1,000,000,000 of gold mined yearly and that they still segregate school systems. So besides mineral products used to gain money, they also raise animals like sheep and cattle, and grow crops. The precipitation is very low so crops are hard to grow.

From Shane's
From Shane's report I found out pretty much the same stuff as Shannon's plus a little more background history of South Africa and the first settlers to go there.

History of Southern Africa

The Apartheid Years
During the 19Th and 20Th centuries Europeans began to colonize Southern Africa. The Native people did not like the colonist at all. They tried to resist them by fighting but the colonist were to powerful and many native tribes were massacred.
The Apartheid
An apartheid is a policy based on discrimination against the black South Africans, that lasted until 1991. South Africa was originally home to many native tribes, but Europeans came in and stole the lands from the native people. I have a weird feeling that this has already happened in other places too. The European invaders didn't just steal land they also made the people there work for them as slaves. The slavery didn't last long, but unfortunately it was replaced by a radical form of discrimination. This form was based on the same principles that Hitler used in Nazi Germany. They separated everyone by race and put all the blacks, Indians and "coloreds" in isolated camps. They were still part of the country, but they had no voting rights and very little civil rights. The apartheid also limited the amount and quality of education the native South Africans got. They also had to carry passes that told guards and policemen they race, status and what they could or could not do. Eventually organizations came around to form a resistance toward the apartheid, but they didn't have much of an effect on it until the U.N. stepped in. One of the leaders of those organizations was Nelson Mandela and he used non-violent and civil disobedience to try to overthrow the current government. He was soon imprisoned for life. Eventually the current government couldn't handle all the uprisings and they had to step down. Nelson Mandela was released from prison and became the new President of South Africa.

Liberation Movements
Following the imposition of the white minority rule many South Africa, which now consist of Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique, liberation movements began to spring up everywhere. Usually the tactic was brutal guerrilla warfare.
Namibia
In 1915 German South Africa and the Ovamboland came under the South African administration. The Ovambo people did not like this and had many unsucessful rebellion attempts. They eventually went under the apartheid policies and became South Frica's fifth province in 1949. They fought for many years to their indepence and with the help of the South West African People's Organization (SWAPO) and the U.N. South Africa lost its control 1966, but despite this South Africa still controlled them until 1990 when they had a ceasefire. Namibia held elections and gave power to SWAPO.
Mozambique
Some of the most ferocious wars against colonialism were inMozambique. The Mozambique liberation front (FRELIMO) was launched to lead the guerrilla warfare. And After many years of violence, a coup in Portugal led to a change in power and they decided to listen to FRELIMO and in 1975 Mozambique gained its independence.

Zimbabwe
They tried to follow Mozambique’s FRELIMO success and started to gain some headway. The guerrilla tactics were working and fighting continued through the 1970s. By 1978 the Rhodesian (Zimbabwe) government knew they couldn’t win so they gave in and decided to have multi-racial elections in 1979. However, the two main black groups were excluded, and guerrilla warfare continued. Zimbabwe tries and is still trying to gain black minority rule but, the efforts just lead to violence and bloodshed. In 2002 a huge HIV infection spread throughout the whole region, while most of the countries were already facing famine and grave food shortages caused by drought and ravaged crops.
Botswana
This country was not hit with the surge of violence that hit all the other countries. It slowly gained independence and set up its own government. It went from one of the poorest countries to one of the most economically stable countries in Africa. Although the good economy, many people are poor and the serious problems like: high unemployment, overgrazing, and spread of HIV.

The rest of southern Africa went through similar events. Although Southern Africa is more economically stable then the rest of Africa, it is still plagued by violence and disease.

Africa- Free Write

Africa is a big continent filled with many dangers. Those dangers range from wild animals to deadly diseases. Those wild animals are lions, hyenas, and hippos. They also have diseases like aids, yellow fever, ebola virus and malaria that are found all over the continent. Africa is a third world continent which means it is very poor and it is filled with violence. It is home to the Sahara desert and the pyramids along with the sphinx. South Africa is pretty stable economically and isn't as violent as the rest of Africa. I would like to go to Africa to see all of the animals and natural wonders it has to offer. The fastest animal in the world lives there too, the speedy cheetah. My favorite football player reminds me of a cheetah because he is very fast, his name is Devin Hester.

why is doris nuetral?

I think that Doris is neutral because she wants to tell an unbiased story. That is a good quality a writer can have. Even though she probably feels that the anglos did her ancestors wrong, but she wants to tell the story in their perspectives and not hers. She is just telling the story, not writing it. She is just trying to state the facts and try to figure out what those people were thinking.

movies

Babel- it is a multi perspective movie. It show how many little events my many people connect one big event.

Stranger Than Fiction- This movie is a 3rd person limited concept and it just shows how a story writer follows and narrates the life of a man.

The Forbidden Kingdom- This movies uses two different languages. It is about a boy who loves kung fu, and he is sent back through time to ancient china to give a magical staff back to its right owner.

Manhandling - The White cows perspective

Well my name is darla and im just a plain ordinary white cow. Usually all of us cows like to stick together and just roam the lands as one big herd, but there is always that odd ball in the group. As you can see, she is not only different due to her hair color but she is also wierd. She always is running off and playing with those other wierd animals that the humans call dogs. So usually all of my friends and I just like to get together and talk about all the wierd things she does. I personally like the way she runs, it always makes me chuckle. So today she be very interesting, because she is going to the torture pen to be poked with the burning sticks. So i decided that i better watch this from my very good hill seats. Oh this is so good i couldn't even pay for this entertainment, she is trying to crawl under the fence. OH, good golly gosh! this is priceless. The best part is coming, they are chasing her around, but ill have to admit she is making those humans look dumb. The humans are getting some grazy holding device now. She is done for, they got her to ground. Shucks, i can never watch the part when they actually brand them, it always gives me the heebie jeebies. She is one tough little cookie, but she is still wierd. She is actually going to try jumping the fence. I don't want to laugh, but i have to because she is stuck. She made it over, i am going to miss her when she gets on that metal container that takes the little ones away.

Do women use their advantages to gain things?

In the story, Bushranger we are introduced to a man named Starlight. Starlight is an interesting character because he is a robber, but he is also a gentle. During one of his robberies he robs a few girls that are in a coach and the young lady begins to sob and tell a sad story about how that’s all the money she has when she gets to the city. This story makes Starlight sympathetic and he gives her back her purse and a little more added to it. So I do think that girls use the advantages that they have to get benefits, but who wouldn’t. If I was getting robbed and all I had to do was shed a tear to get back the stuff stolen from me I would. Although this girl could have been actually crying due to the fact she was being robbed, but she probably knew that she could probably get Starlight to feel sympathetic and she succeeded.

Is Bloodshed Really Needed Over Land?

No, i don't think it is needed, but unfortunately it often happens. In the story Gurra, the native people are invaded by the white and forced away from there sacred lands. They could have easily settled on a deal, but instead the white men went straight to the guns and power. The main reason I thought there was violent conflict between the two was the fact they can't understand each other. They are so culturally diverse that it scared one another and since the white had a greater power they used it to conquer their fears. So i think that most of the white didn't want to kill them but were to scared to live with them. For example, you are in a open cage with the lion and you have a gun. The lion is just as scared as you so it roars but just stands there. Then you raise your and shoot the lion, but you could have just climbed the fence and left. So in the end you can avoid bloodshed, but it easier to take the easy way out.

I wake up with the yhi in my eyes and i moan. I get up and i hear a yelp from my mahthi, so run outside. For some reason he was stuck up in the dead yaraan. So i climb up get him down. I was hungry so i went and got my nullah nullah and my moonoon. i went out searching for a goonur when i run into a pack of wild dingos. I thought the best thing to do was to attack but they all show their ear moonan and i pause. As i stand there one jumps on my back and i swing my nullah nullah and hit him in the head.  i grab a maimah i heave it towards one but it missed and then it attacked, but something hit it. i look up at the hill and i see a group of gooeea. They saved me. They were noongahburrahs and i decided to them dheal seeds to thank them. They accepted and then left. I saw a goonur by the dungle and i threw my moonoon. It stuck. so i ran over to get my prize, but unfortunately it was actually a goomai. So i took it home and cooked it but it was a disappointing meal. i decided to go to town and find some meainei but all the ones i saw were so womba. response

It seems that in Australia they is a clear separation between city and country. I could see form both Shane's and Shannon's writing that this was clear. It seemed like the people either lived and worked in the city or lived and worked on a ranch. The city kids had real teachers while the kids out in the bush had a teacher through the radio. I learned some good facts like Australians dominate the tennis world and that they are one of the most musical but harder to understand people in the world.

australia- land and resources

The Land

Australia is a special country because it is also a continent. It has more than 12,000 miles of
coastline. It is home to one of the spectacular natural wonders in the world, The Great Barrier Reef. Due to millions of years of erosion Australia is the flattest continent in the world. The central lowlands holds Australia's most lushish farm lands along with the Great Artesian Basin which is 670,000 square miles of underground water.

The Climate
Australia is located in the Southern Hemisphere which means our winter is there summer and vise versa. They usually enjoy Christmas by spending time on the beach having a picinic. It is never to cold there to enjoy outdoor activities. The Rainfall varies from 40 inches to 10 inches.

Plants and Animals

Australia is home to many different types of plants and trees
of all shapes and sizes. Some familiar ones might be The eucalyptus trees and it is home to the tallest hardwood tree in the world. this land is home to marsupials which carry their babies in pouches like kangaroos and the best animal ever next to a panda bear the koala bear. Their are also dingos platypuses and buffalos.

The Resources

The great land of Australia holds a vast abundancy of natural mineral resources. They are found on the exposed rocks that occur over much of the continent. They also have offshore drilling for oil. Although they have many mineral resources they lack the most important resource of all, water. But they obtain most of there money through wool exportation and that is why they sometimes say, "Australia travels on the sheep's back."

Australia - free write

its a big island surrounded by water and it is a country and a continent all in one which kind of makes it like a value pack. it is the home of the greatest living organism, the great barrier reef
which is also the home of many, many fish. i hear it is a pretty good surf spot and the beaches are nice. it was also the home of steve irwin the crocodile hunter, who recently died. it also is the home of dingos, kangaroos, and koala bears. those animals all have cool names and id like to meet some of them someday. my dad once went to australia for some military thing. he says its hot. there is a lot of desert out there too and the water drains the other way since it is in the southern hemisphere.  the really cool opera house is located there and its in sydney.
